This hospital used actual market data to determine whether or not they could offer NICU services to their patients.
Problem: This hospital was transferring out a significant volume of babies requiring NICU care. A lack of detailed market reimbursement data made it difficult to make a decision about opening an NICU.
Solution: Using PDS, the hospital created several compare groups. Group A included local area hospitals and Group B was similar hospitals. Group C included all hospitals selected for Groups A and B. The client hospital was then able to look at the averages for the compare groups, as well as the lows and highs for NICU services. Armed with this information, this hospital was able to forecast revenues more accurately.
Result: By combining this data with its cost accounting system numbers and other market knowledge, this hospital was able to confidently make their decision about opening an NICU.
